Martha Carey
"IDEAS/PLACES"
March 11th to April 5th, 2006

Gallery 63 Eleven is proud to announce "Ideas/Places", artist Martha Carey's second solo show with us featuring 16 of her most recent abstract paintings. Carey creates color compositions that capture the unseen.... the energy of a thought as it sparks the mind, the hopeful ache for a place visited in years past, the imagined architecture of a family. Her abstractions reflect the inward domain and contain no representation of the external world. Carey's intense canvasses provide us with some contemporary evidence that abstract painting is, as poet Octavio Paz once observed, the West's last idealistic art.

Martha Carey was born and raised in Connecticut. She received her BA from Carleton College, an MA from Simmons College, and has studied photography, drawing and design. She relocated to the Seattle area in 2001.

Martha Careywill be in the gallery Saturday March 25th from 11:00 to 5:00 to talk about her recent work.
